Road works looming at Birchwood

HIGHWAY improvement works are set to start in the Birchwood area next month, which includes the closure of Ordnance Avenue, for up to two weeks.

Warrington Borough Council has made an Order under Section 14 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

The effect of which is to introduce a prohibition of driving on Ordnance Avenue to a point approximately 380 metres west and 270 metres east of its junction with Redshank Lane.

The Order will be effective from 11th April 2022 for 2 weeks, between 9:30am and 3:30pm, Monday to Friday, when signed on site.

Access will be under the control of the relevant Contractor for the duration of the works. The alternative route will be via Admirals Road and vice versa. The closure is required to facilitate highway improvement works.

The council is also introducing a prohibition of driving on Brock Road from its junction with Benson Road to a point approximately 100 metres north of the junction with Benson Road.

The Order will be effective from 4th April 2022 for 3 days, between 9:30am and 2:30pm, Monday to Wednesday, when signed on site.
Access will be under the control of the relevant Contractor for the duration of the works.

The alternative route will be via Admirals Road, Ordnance Avenue, Dewhurst Road, Benson Road and vice versa. The closure is required to facilitate resurfacing of the junction bellmouth of Brock Road to Benson Road.

  1. So what’s going to happen to the motorist who needs to park in their private car parks? They now have to go and park wherever possible and get a parking charge for parking without a permit. This is just insane! We got a parking charge notice for parking on private land then had to pay the PCN online at
