Passengers evacuated as coach catches fire on M62 at Winwick

FIREFIGHTERS helped evacuate passengers from a coach that caught fire on the M62 at Winwick, Warrington, last night.

Three fire crews from Warrington, Lymm and Stockton Heath were called to the incident on the eastbound carriageway of the M62 between Junction 9 and 10 shortly bwefore 9.30 pm last night, Thursday.

On arrival they found smoke coming from the rear axle and one of the rear tyres of the vehicle.

The crews assisted the driver and passengers off the coach and one hose reel was used to extinguish the fire.

The vehicle was then checked for hotspots using a thermal imaging camera prior to the departure of firefighters.

Lanes one and two of the carriageway were closed by the Highways Agency while this incident was dealt with.

In another incident, last night shortly after 10 pm firefighters were called out to extinguish a fire in a skip on Beech Road, Stockton Heath.
