Carshop wins planning consent for extension to dealership

PLANNING chiefs at Warrington have given the go-ahead for an extension to the existing Carshop dealership in the town.

The scheme involves a car preparation and photo-zon extension to the premises at Calver Park on the Winwick Quay industrial estate.

Warrington Borough Council planners were told the existing facility is not a typical car dealership, or showroom, but shares many of the same features associated with a traditional car showroom.

The facility will receive previously owned vehicles that will be tested and made road-worthy where necessary, prepared for sale, catalogued, and stored on-site.

Customers will browse the catalogue of vehicles for sale online, rather than view on-site, reserve the car that they want to purchase and then arrange a time to view it on-site and/or complete the sale and collect their vehicle. Alternatively, the whole process can be carried out online and the car delivered to the customer.

The new extension will be used as an addition of the existing process as the preparation and photographing of cars has outgrown its current position within the building.

Planners were told that since opening their first store in 1999 in Northampton, CarShop have continued to expand across the country and now have 11 stores in total.

They have won various awards over the last few years including Autotrader Retailer of the Year 2018, Independent Used Car Retailer Award 2017, and the Customer Care Award 2016.
