Countdown to Christmas with Radio General

THE patients of Warrington Hospital are continuing to stay in touch with their local community via their hospital radio, Radio General.

Patients can listen for free on the Bedside Units and online at www.radiogeneral.co.uk or via the TuneIn app.

The station currently presents a daily live request programme along with other members and contributors recording their programme at home to be played out later in the week.

Over the Christmas and New Year period the station will be presenting a number of extra live and recorded programmes to entertain the patients whilst they are in Warrington Hospital.

Live programmes are scheduled for Christmas Eve. Simon Marshall starts the day at 10:00 am to Noon, David Quinn takes you through the afternoon from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm and from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm David Birch and Family follows Santa on his journey delivering presents.

Specially recorded programmes are at 12:00 pm with Brian Conlan taking the patients through the afternoon until 2:00 pm. Kevin Farrell fills the gap between 5:00pm and 6:00 pm with a mixture of Christmas Songs. A recording of the Houghton Weavers 2021 Concert will be broadcast at 8:00 pm. Dave Birch returns at 10:00 pm with the ‘Rock Club’, ‘Christmas Jazz’ with Jim Jefferies follows at 11:00 pm.

On Christmas Day there is a full line up of recorded Christmas programmes starting at 9:00 am with Jim Jefferies and Friends. 12:00 pm sees Brian Conlan taking you through to 2:00 pm. Mark Snowdon then looks at the ‘All-Time Request Chart’ which includes the Queen speech at 3:00 pm. Between 4:00 pm and 8:00 pm there’s ‘Christmas No. 1s’ with David Birch, ‘Carols in the Drawing Room’ presented by Ken Anton and ‘Radio General at Christmas’ with Jim Jefferies. 8:00 pm sees a recording of the Warrington Male Voice Choir’s Christmas Concert being broadcast.

Boxing Day sees a live sport & request show at 2:00 pm to 5:00pm. with David Quinn.

The following week there are live programmes Mon, Wed and Thu at 12:00 pm to 3:00pm with Simon Marshall and on Tue 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm David Quinn presents a Sports and Requests programme, these are in addition to our usual evening programmes at 8:00 pm.

On New Year’s Eve from 6:00 pm, Radio General joins other Hospital Radio Stations around the country for the Big Broadcast.
