WITH the bookies cutting the odds on a White Christmas, Warrington could be heading for a sprinkling of snow on the big day, depending on which weather forecast you follow.
While the Met Office isn’t currently forecasting any snow in Warrington on Christmas Day, it is forecasting showers in the days leading up to Christmas.
Meanwhile, the BBC is forecasting it will be chillier with a chance of sleet and snow on Christmas Day.
The Met Office forecast for the rest of the week is tonight:
Low cloud, mist and fog extending to more of the region overnight. Clearer skies in places, particularly across Cumbria and over the higher parts of the Pennines. Turning locally frosty. Minimum temperature -3 °C.
Sunday:
Similar to today with low cloud, mist and fog for most areas, this locally persisting all day. Pennine regions and Cumbria may see some sunshine. Feeling rather chilly. Light winds. Maximum temperature 8 °C.
Outlook for Monday to Wednesday:
Remaining dry and settled. Many areas cloudy at first but some sunshine is likely, especially on Tuesday and Wednesday. Frost and fog in places overnight and feeling increasingly cold.
Looking further ahead A cloudy start to this period but remaining generally dry with just some light rain possible in north Scotland.
This dry weather continues for a time with variable cloud cover across most of the nation, although occasional showers may be possible for north and eastern coastal regions.
Towards the middle of this period the threat of rain or wintery conditions increases, particularly towards the south and south west.
During this time some stronger winds are possible, although these are likely to be confined to southern regions.
Temperatures are likely to be rather cold with overnight frosts and increased risk of fog. Settled conditions however are likely to remain through the last few days of the year with a continued risk of frost and fog.
Meanwhile bookies, William Hill has now slashed its odds for snow to fall across the country in the coming weeks.
Edinburgh and Newcastle are now 10-11 joint-favourites to wake up to a white Christmas on the big day, with long-time frontrunner Glasgow now 5-4, and London (City Airport) has been slashed from 6-1 to 7-4 third favourite.
William Hill said next week’s forecast comes ‘with a huge dose of uncertainty as the BBC and the Met Office have issued contradicting forecasts for the week leading up to December 25.
William Hill spokesperson Rupert Adams said: “This is the first significant movement in the market and it has been a number of years since we made any of the station’s odds on.
“It will come as a real shot in the arm for those hoping to wake up to blankets of snow on Christmas Day.”
