FIRE & Rescue crews from Warrington and Lymm helped rescue a “lucky” lorry driver trapped in his cab following a collision which resulted in the M56 near Stretton being closed yesterday (Thursday) evening.

Four fire engines attended – one from Lymm, one from Warrington, one from Runcorn and one from Greater Manchester following a collision on the M56 eastbound carriageway between junction 10 to junction nine near Stretton.

The collision involved a HGV and a car. The driver in the HGV was physically trapped inside the cab.

The man was assessed by paramedics before crews extricated him by cutting away at the cab. He was taken to Warrington Hospital as a precaution but was “very lucky” to escape with minor injuries.

A full closure of the motorway was put in place while emergency services were at the scene.

Crews were at the scene for approximately two hours and 30 minutes.
