FIRE crews were involved in two animal rescues in Warrington involving a dog in the Manchester Ship Canal and a horse trapped under a bridge at Penketh.
At 3:50pm five fire engines attended from Lymm, Warrington, Crewe, Penketh and Widnes to reports that a dog was trapped near to Knutsford Road swing bridge.
On arrival, the crews found that the dog had fallen off the embankment and into the canal.
The crews removed some of the bushes to reach the riverbank, they then used a line to rescue the dog and bring it to safety.
Firefighters were detained at the scene for around 40 minutes.
Earlier in the day, shortly after 1pm, two fire engines attended from Winsford and Lymm, along with a rope rescue unit from Lymm following reports of an animal rescue on Hall Nook, Penketh, Warrington.
On arrival at the scene, the crews found a horse was trapped under a bridge after entering a brook.
The crews used specialist rope rescue equipment to release the horse, it was then passed to the care of a vet.
Firefighters were detained at the scene for around one hour and 40 minutes.
Incidents involving animals need firefighters to take account of the species of animal and the environment they are in.
