Fluctuating COVID-19 infection rates fall slightly with 161 new cases while hospital inpatient numbers increase

WHILE Warrington’s fluctuating COVID-19 infection rates have fallen marginally over a seven-day period, another 161 new cases have been confirmed in the town, with inpatient numbers at the town’s hospital rising.

The 161 (159) new cases reported by the UK Health Security Agency, takes the total number of cases in Warrington since the start of the pandemic to 40,628 (40,467).

After three consecutive days of increases, infection rates have fallen slightly to 1,120 (1,130) – 534.9 (539.6) per 100,000 population over a seven-day period which remains above the national average of 514.1 (505.5) per 100,000, which have risen again.

While no further deaths have been reported at the hospital, inpatient numbers have risen from 25-29 with two patients discharged since yesterday.

Meanwhile, another 59,610 COVID-19 cases and 150 deaths have been reported in the UK today. Additionally, 513,722 people were administered a booster or third dose of a COVID vaccine on Monday.
The latest UK COVID data compares to 45,691 infections and 180 deaths reported last week on 7 December.

The total number of deaths in Warrington within 28 days of a positive test reported by Public Health England is currently 529 (527) 252.6 per 100,000 population compared to the national rate of 218.6.
The total number of deaths with Covid-19 on the death certificate in Warrington reported by Public Health England in all settings is 611 (611).
