Action underway to evict travellers from Orford Park

TRAVELLERS who have set up camp at Orford Park have until Friday morning to leave the site or face court action.

The illegal encampment arrived on the land near LiveWire’s premises earlier this week.

Welfare checks have already been carried out and police will be issuing a notice for the group of at least seven caravans and associated vehicles, to vacate the site by 9am Friday morning.
A Warrington Borough Council spokesperson said: “We are aware that there is currently an encampment Orford Park. The police will be issuing a Section 61 notice for the group to leave by 9am on Friday 1 October 2021.
“The site has been visited by representatives from the sub-regional traveller team to carry out welfare checks.”
Meanwhile, three travellers caravans have also been reported on the Village Hotel car park at Centre Parks, Warrington, earlier today.
There have been a number of ongoing issues with traveller encampments across the town during the summer, sparking calls for the council to allocate a dedicated site, for which £2m has been ring-fenced.
