WARRINGTON Borough Council’s highways team has been praised by local Lib Dem Cllrs following the refurbishment of the Forge car park at Stockton Heath.

The work is nearly finished with just a little bit of tidying up still to do.

Cllr Peter Walker said: “We have written to David Boyer, the Council’s Director of Environment, asking him to pass on our thanks to his staff and the contractors. Everyone we have talked to has praised the way the project was carried out and the cheerful and helpful manner of the workers on site.
“There has been the minimum of disruption and we have been kept fully informed at every stage. There has been effective consultation with key users.
Cllr Judith Wheeler added, “The entire car park was resurfaced and re-marked. The work involved improving the drainage, providing about an additional twenty spaces and making access down the slope to the bottom car park for pedestrians with wheeled mobility aids and buggies safer.
“The Forge car park in Stockton Heath is a major dropping off point for pupils to the primary school and the opportunity was taken to make the route to the school safe.”
The car park, located in the busy district centre of Stockton Heath, has received a £750,000 investment, which includes an additional 24 parking places and six more disabled parking bays.
The improvements also saw the demolition of the disused toilet block on the lower level, the renewal of drainage and the resurfacing of the main access routes throughout the car park.
Improvements to the lighting and CCTV systems have also been made, making the overall feel of the car park a safe and secure place to park when visiting Stockton Heath.
