A road was cordoned off when firefighters were called out to reports of a potentially hazardous substance leaking from the side of a van on Regency Square, Warrington.

Two fire engines attended from Warrington and Penketh shortly after 11.30am yesterday following reports that an unknown substance had leaked from a van.

On arrival, crews found a small amount of an unknown green liquid was leaking out of the side door of the vehicle.
A cordon was put in place as a precaution and firefighters worked to prevent the substance from entering the drains.
Following enquiries crews established that the substance was a non-hazardous cable lubricant.
Roadway crews helped to clean-up the liquid and firefighters were detained at the scene for around 90 minutes.
In another incident, shortly before noon, Firefighters from Birchwood used a hose reel jet to extinguish a small fire in a woodland area off Westbrook Crescent in Warrington.
The crew was detained at the scene for around 45 minutes.
