M6 near Lymm fully re-opened following serious collision as 76 motorists face prosecution for using mobile phones at the scene

THE M6 Southbound near Lymm which was closed for more than 24 hours following a serious collision during the early hours of yesterday has now fully re-opened, with 76 motorists who took pictures or video of the incident on their mobile phones, facing prosecution.

The carriageway had to be resurfaced following a large diesel spillage and damage to the central reservation following the collision involving two HGVs, a Ford Transit Van and a silver Mercedes.



Meanwhile, police are appealing for witnesses following the collision which left a 56-year-old man with life-threatening injuries.
The collision happened at 4.16am on Friday 13 August on the M6 southbound between junction 20 and junction 19 involving two HGVs, a Ford Transit van and a silver Mercedes.
The driver of the Mercedes, a 56-year-old man from Newcastle-Under-Lyme, sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.
The driver of the Ford Transit a 58-year-old man from Bolton and the driver of one of the HGVs a 52-year-old woman from Redditch both sustained minor injuries.
Officers are now appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the collision or may have dashcam footage of the vehicles leading up to or during the incident to get in touch.

Meanwhile, 76 drivers on the Northbound carriageway who were seen taking video or photographs of the collision on their mobile phones will be receiving Notices of Intended Prosecution in the post.
