WORK has started on building 30 new affordable homes to rent on the site of the former Penketh Tavern by Warrington Housing Association.

To mark the occasion, a sod-cutting ceremony was performed by the Mayor of Warrington, Cllr. Mrs Maureen Creaghan.

The new homes on Greystone Road are for people aged 55 and over and will be ready for the new residents to move in by the summer of 2022.
Maureen Creaghan, Mayor of Warrington, said: “It’s great to see the redevelopment of a derelict site which will provide a much needed safe, secure and comfortable place to call home for local older people in an established thriving community which has great shopping, leisure and health service facilities on hand.”
The development consists of 30 one and two-bed apartments and has been made possible by substantial financial investment by Warrington Housing Association as well as grant funding from Homes England.
Judith Winterbourne, Warrington Housing Association Board Chair, said: “This will be a high quality development to reflect Warrington Housing Association’s continued commitment to substantial investment in the borough to help make Warrington a great place to live – we are helping to address the housing needs of local older people as well as boosting local employment and supply opportunities.”
The sod cutting event was also attended by Warrington Housing Association (WHA) staff and board members, alongside local ward and parish councillors, and representatives from Homes England, a key funder of the development.
Warrington Housing Association is working in partnership with Kingsmead Construction Ltd who are carrying out the building work, as well as PRP Architects, Markhams Ltd, Sutcliffe Ltd and Broadgrove Planning and Development.
