FIREFIGHTERS were called out to tackle a smouldering light fitting in Warrington town centre yesterday evening.

At 18:30 one fire crew from Warrington was called following reports of a fire in the open on Palmyra Square South.

On arrival, the crew found one light fixture around 18ft from the ground smouldering.
Firefighters pitched a ladder and used a CO2 extinguisher.
A thermal imaging camera was then used to check the area for hot spots.
Earlier firefighters were called to premises on Wilson Patten Street, Warrington at 17.50 following reports of a fire involving a small recycling machine.
The fire was out on arrival but the crew used one hose reel jet to damp down the surrounding area.
