Go-ahead for new Job Centre Plus to cope with demand arising from COVID

PLANNING chiefs at Warrington have given the go-ahead for a new Job Centre Plus in the town to help deal with unprecedented demand expected on the Benefits system arising from Covid-19.

A planning application submitted by the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) last month – together with a request that it be dealt with as soon as possible – has been approved by Warrington Borough Council planners.

The application is for permission to change the use of parts of three floors at Tannery Court, in Tanners Lane, Warrington.
The parts of the building involved are currently vacant but have previously been used for offices.
The DWP believes here will be a significant demand for its services in the Warrington area.
But the new office is just one of a number of new “appointment only” Job Centres planned across the country.
The DWP application stated: “We are attempting to open the new offices as quickly as possible to ensure we are ready to help people when they need us.
“We hope you will assist us in accelerating the Planning Approval process to assist us in achieving this.”
The new Job Centre Plus will occupy parts of the ground, first and second floors.
