A three storey block of flats at Howley, Warrington, was evacuated as firefighters wearing breathing apparatus tackled a blaze on the second floor.

At around 4pm yesterday, Sunday, firefighters were called to reports of a fire in a second floor flat in Kerridge Drive, Howley, Warrington.

Three fire engines attended, from Birchwood, Warrington and Lymm.
On arrival, they found the flat was well alight and smoke alarms were sounding.
Four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus originally entered the three-storey block of flats.
The building was evacuated and a cordon, a water supply and a safety jet were all set up.
The electricity supply was isolated and firefighters extinguished the fire with water.
No-one was unaccounted for in relation to the flats affected by the fire.
Once the fire was out firefighters damped the area affected by it down to make it safe.
They also turned over materials and cut away areas affected by the fire to expose hotspots.
A thermal imaging camera was used to look for hotspots.
Firefighters left the scene once they were satisfied that the second floor flat and the flat above it were safe and that the fire had not spread beyond them.
There were no signs of fire or smoke when firefighters left the building.
They were in attendance for more than six-and-a-half hours.
An investigation into the cause of the fire has taken place.
It is believed to have been an accidental fire.
