Caravan park plan for former colliery site at Burtonwood

PLANS for a caravan park on a former colliery site at Burtonwood have been submitted to Warrington Borough Council.

The scheme involves land off Broad Lane which is now largely improved grassland enclosed in a paddock but which contains three disused mine shafts and a wooden framed stables building with a corrugated metal roof.

The proposals are for the laying out of caravan pitches and associated works including hardstanding and drainage. The site is in the Green Belt but because of the previous mining use is classed as formerly developed land.
An ecology report prepared for applicant Jack Jenkins indicates that there are no nationally or locally rare plant species on the site, nor protected species. But existing trees and hedgerows provide suitable nesting sites for birds.
