Resolve remains strong as the wait continues for Help Save the Raven campaigners

CAMPAIGNERS battling to save the historic Raven Inn at Glazebury are still waiting to hear from Warrington planners on proposals to demolish the building and replace it with a small modern housing development.

But while the wait goes on the resolve of the local community remains as strong now as it was when the campaign started, in January 2019.

The campaign has enjoyed support from across the political spectrum.
Since the news broke about the current planning application campaigners have been liaising with the Council Leader, Cllr Russ Bowden, who has supported their campaign.
The Council understands the campaign’s concerns and given the strength of public interest in The Raven, they say it is only right that this application is determined by the Development Management Committee, in the event of planning officers recommending approval.
Recently elected local Cllr Wendy Maisey commented: “I’ve been involved with Save the Raven since the beginning of 2019. This campaign is not just about saving a historic building with heritage asset status, it’s about the real possibility of providing a community asset within the Glazebury Culcheth and Croft ward. Whilst the past 15 months has been difficult living with Covid it has however shown us all how our community has pulled together. There is so much scope for The Raven, it would be a fantastic community asset for the villages and has the full and continued support from the 3 Borough Councillors.”
Local campaigner Peter Sturman added: “The support from our local and national politicians has been strong and unwavering.
“As we continue the fight to save the Raven it is very important to have that cross-party support. It both helps to bolster our resolve and emphasises the total strength of feeling, across the board, that the Raven must be saved.”
