WARRINGTON Rylands have been under the Wembley spotlight this week ahead of Saturday’s FA Vase Final, including good luck messages in the House of Commons.

At House of Commons Business Questions, Warrington North MP Charlotte Nichols raised the need to support non-league and grassroots football.

Her speech paid tribute to local football teams, including Greenalls Padgate St Oswald’s FC, Wolfpack FC, Cheshire Cheese FC and Winwick Athletic and Warrington Rylands.
Commons Speaker Lindsay Hoyle, son of former Warrington North MP Lord Hoyle and Leader of the House of Commons Jacob Rees-Mogg both joined Charlotte in wishing Warrington Rylands luck for their FA Vase Final tie this weekend.
In response to Charlotte’s question House of Commons Leader Jacob Rees-Mogg said: “The point the Honourable Lady makes is right, it has been a tough time for grassroots football. Obviously the higher levels of the game have carried on getting money in and various schemes have been proposed to help that ensure that the grassroots game prospers.”
Charlotte added: “Grassroots and non-league football have taken a massive hit during the pandemic, as we have seen here in Warrington.
“If the beautiful game is to be sustainable we need to support grassroots and non-league football, including through improving their facilities.
“As your MP I will continue to work to do this. In the meantime, come on Rylands!”
Meanwhile, Rylands will feature on the Warm Up Show on Radio Warrington this weekend, between 12-2pm while they are playing at Wembley!
The Warm Up show was created together by local business entreprenuer Andy Hibbert, founder of Real 5 Networking who brought in “some good mates” who are all sports mad, Keith Hayes – The Duke, Ian Cox – Coxy, Mark Beech – Beechy and Al Cassin – Big Al.
The Duke and Andy were down at Gorsey Lane this week where Rylands were training ahead of the big game on Saturday. They met with manager Dave McNabb, Chairman, Mark Pye, Captain Gary Kenny and young striker Elliott Nebbit.
When asked what this week had been like manager Dave said:”The week has been a whirlwind, obviously we were delighted with the win over Walsall in the Semi that got us into the FA Vase Final and then to get the news that we
have been promoted is just icing on the cake. Its not really sunk in yet that we are going to Wembley, its a boyhood dream and I just want everyone involved with the club and the fans to really enjoy the whole experience.”
