LATCHFORD Albion made it two wins from two on saturday, when they took the spoils in a tight encounter against a tough Bury outfit.
With a heavy pitch, and some difficult conditions, it was not a day for free flowing rugby, however Albion’s opening try came when the ball was moved across the line at pace, with winger Gareth Fairhurst benefiting when he crossed in the corner, Matty Rudd’s fine conversion gave the visitors an early 0-6 lead.
The home side seemed to adjust to the conditions, and they started to take a foot hold in the game.

Firstly they ran the ball on the last tackle and found space out wide to score , before a kick caused havoc in the Latchford defence, with the Bury stand off reacting the quickest to win the race for the touchdown. With one of the tries converted it left the hosts nudge themselves into the lead, and at half time the score was nicely in the balance at Bury 10 Latchford 6.
As with the first half, the visitors started strongly and were quickly level. Again it was Fairhurst who crossed for his second try of the afternoon, finishing off a 60 yard move, which started when Matty Ellis set centre Ben Harper free, who in turn fed Fairhurst who showed his pace to fend off the oncoming defence.
On the hour mark, Albion hit the front. Matty Rudd put in a chip over the Bury defence which they could not deal with and second row, Jamie Birchall, kicked ahead and grounded the ball near the posts, Rudd’s conversion edging the visitors ahead 10 – 16.
The hosts applied pressure upon the Albion line, but a fantastic defensive display, saw them repel any attack, and saw them come away with the victory to continue their undefeated start to the season.
