International Women’s Day

WARRINGTON’s third female Mayor in a row is calling on local people to join together with people around the world and reflect on the successes and achievements of women on International Women’s Day on Monday, March 8.

The theme for this year’s celebrations is Choose to Challenge. A challenged world is an alert world.
Warrington Borough Council’s Mayor and Deputy Mayor are both women. The Mayor of Warrington, Cllr Maureen Creagham is the third female Mayor in a row and she is encouraging all women to choose to challenge and follow their ambitions whatever they are.
She said: “International Women’s Day is a time for everyone, regardless of gender or gender identity, to celebrate the progress that women have made towards equality and remember how much further there is to go.
“We celebrate all women, in all their diversities. We embrace their facets and intersections of faith, race, ethnicity, gender, sexual identity or disability. We celebrate those who came before us, those who stand beside us now, and those who will come after.
“It’s a time to celebrate the achievements of women, whether social, political, economic or cultural.”
