Mystery “hug in a bag” helps lift community spirits in Woolston

A mystery “hug in a bag” has started to appear in various locations around Woolston, helping lift spirits in the local community.

At a time when parts of Warrington are recovering from some of the worst floods in its history and the local community is rallying around in an unbelievably generous way during the COVID-19 pandemic, a caring member of the community is raising spirits in a very different, but nonetheless uplifting way.

Woolston is once again seeing mysterious objects appearing in its parks, hedgerows and trees. The Pigs in the Park created last year by Jeff Stephens was followed by the amazing Christmas lights display on Hill Top Road, extended to keep spirits high during lockdown.
Local resident Jim Hunter set out to uncover the latest act of generosity in the Woolston community.
“Now, at a time when many people are struggling to cope with winter weather, lockdown and feeling sadness and a sense of loss with the passing of Captain Sir Tom Moore, a mystery benefactor has placed “Hugs in a Bag” around the area, lifting the spirits and bringing smiles to the faces of everyone who finds them,” said Jim.
“The “Hugs in a Bag” are appearing mysteriously around the area, prepared and discreetly distributed by our mystery benefactor under cover of darkness.
“In a clandestine interview I told them of the enjoyment they were bringing and they said that are doing it because “people need a lift at the moment, I know personally it’s a challenge. Lovely to see both adults and children finding them.”
Jim added: “The mystery benefactor wants to let people know that they are welcome to take a “Hug in a Bag” home with them and that they’re happy to see people starting to take them.”
