Council thank People of Warrington for Covid response

THE Mayor of Warrington, council leader and chief executive have all sent open letters thanking people across the borough for their “momentous efforts” in helping to combat the Covid-19 pandemic.

They have issued four open letters – to health and social care staff, to key workers, to the business community, and to the public – expressing their gratitude for the huge contributions they have made over the past year.
The letters acknowledge the unprecedented challenges of 2020 and the huge sacrifices made by people in Warrington.
Nurses, carers, doctors, midwives and staff across Warrington’s health and social care system, are praised for their tireless work to provide outstanding, ‘lifesaving’ care, in the most challenging of circumstances.
Warrington’s key workers – from waste collectors, to supermarket workers, and from police officers and teachers, to bus drivers and cleaners – have been thanked for going above and beyond to ensure the continued running of vital services.
Businesses have been praised for their resilience, positivity and adaptability, their willingness to support each other and their generosity in donating PPE equipment and providing free meals for struggling families.
The residents of Warrington have also been thanked for their huge efforts to stick to the rules, look out for friends, family and neighbours and for the part they have played in keeping people – particularly Warrington’s most vulnerable residents – safe.
Mayor of Warrington, Cllr Maureen Creaghan, said: “In a year of huge challenges for us all, we can be really proud of the spirit, togetherness, and resilience shown by the people of Warrington.
“From our heroic care staff and committed key workers to our residents and businesses, everyone has played an important part in helping us get through this incredibly difficult time. The stories we have heard of acts of kindness, of sacrifice and of outstanding care are truly inspirational and give us great hope that we will, ultimately, emerge from this, stronger.”
Council Leader, Cllr Russ Bowden, said: “We really could not have asked any more of our health and social care staff this year. We owe them a huge debt of gratitude for their heroism, selflessness and willingness to put others before themselves.
“We are also very proud of our business community for their support for each other and for the huge contribution they’ve made to the fight against Covid. At the same time, the commitment shown by our residents has played a huge part in keeping people safe. By following the guidance and taken responsibility for your health and the health of others, you really have helped save lives. Thank you to you all.”
Council Chief Executive, Professor Steven Broomhead MBE, added: “As we reach the end of 2020, it’s really important that we take the time to show our appreciation for all those whose vital work has helped protect and support our communities.
“Under huge pressure, our health and social care staff and key workers have carried out their roles with commitment, professionalism and compassion. Your sacrifices will not be forgotten. Our business community has also once again shown its resilience, facing huge challenges with positivity and innovation.
“I would also like to thank our residents for your huge efforts in helping to control the virus. While there is still work to, and it’s vital that we all continue to work together in the fight against the pandemic, the fantastic qualities we have shown over the past 12 months will hold us in good stead to face the challenges ahead.”
