VISITORS to Warrington’s Walton Hall and Gardens are able to once again enjoy three of the venue’s top attractions, with the re-opening of the golf course, children’s zoo and adventure golf.
Golfers old and new can now return to Walton Hall Golf Course, which dates from 1971 and was later extended and redesigned by world renowned golfer Peter Aliss.
It is now open daily with tee slots available from 8am -2.30pm but golfers should be advised that there is no pay-and-play facility at this time and that bookings for tee slots are bookable online only at waltonhallgolfcourse.co.uk/booking-request
The Children’s Zoo is also now ready to welcome visitors once more, and has re-opened.
Home to a range of animals, including alpacas, rescue donkeys, potbellied pigs, Herdwick sheep, African pygmy goats and a colourful mix of birds – the zoo will be open every day from 10.30am – 4pm. It is free to enter and, unlike other local visitor attractions, there’s no need to book.
Meanwhile, staff at the estate are gearing up for the return of the popular Adventure Golf, which re-opens tomorrow (Saturday). It will be open at weekends and school holidays from 10.30am – 4pm (last tee off 3pm), weather permitting.
Like the Children’s Zoo, there’s no need to book – just turn up and play. Both attractions have safe queuing systems in place to help support social distancing.
In another boost for visitors, from the Heritage Cafe – which is open every day from 9am – 4pm, offering a takeaway service – will be re-opening its outdoor seating area tomorrow.
Warrington Borough Council’s cabinet member for leisure and community, Cllr Tony Higgins, said: “Our staff are working extremely hard to ensure that people can visit Walton Hall and Gardens safely, and it’s great news that our golf course, Children’s Zoo and Adventure Golf are now ready to re-open.
“As more of our attractions re-open, we want to ensure all of our visitors feel safe, and we’re supporting this through social-distancing, queuing systems and signage throughout the estate.
“Best of all, Visit England recently awarded Walton Hall and Gardens with the ‘We’re Good to Go’ badge, meaning we’re a safe space for you and your family.
“Walton Hall Golf Course has been kept in superb condition by staff throughout the latest lockdown and I hope that the renaissance in golf witnessed after the first lockdown will be evident once again.”
Visitors now have access to most of the park. As well as the golf course, zoo, adventure golf and cafe, there is full access to the children’s adventure playground, formal gardens, orchard and pond.
The attractions that remain closed are the Pitch ‘n’ Putt, cycle museum, Glasshouses and vinery, the shippon yard and bowling.
