WARRINGTON and Halton Green Party have welcomed the recent announcement that work on the Local Plan will be put on hold until next summer.
The Local Plan, as it stands, involves large scale building on our precious green belt and the local Greenb Party say they would like to see a comprehensive review of the current plan. They see it as a real opportunity to undertake a wholesale review of the implications of the plan on the town.
Green Party Deputy Leader and environment spokesperson, Steph Davies said :”We know that there were many opposers of the current plan from right across Warrington. The Council should not be too proud to backtrack on some of the proposals so that they can create a greener and more sustainable future for our town, which incorporates affordable housing and the protection of green spaces.
“The current Local Plan makes too many assumptions in terms of household sizes and housing demand. There need to be neighbourhood level development plans, and an essential audit on protection of the environment. We hope the delay will provide an opportunity for a more creative way of planning for our future.”
