Weather warnings as wind and rain hits Warrington

THE Met Office has issued yellow weather warnings for the Warrington area – for wind and rain.

Heavy rain is forecast for the rest of today, tonight and right through until 5am tomorrow (Wednesday)
Wind speeds of up to 44mph are also predicted.
This means the Warrington area can expect some flooding and disruption to travel.
Bus and train journeys are likely to take longer, with spray and flooding of some roads affecting all travel. Power supplies and other services could be interrupted and a few homes and business could be flooded.
But the Environment Agency are not expecting flooding.
The weather comes courtesy of Storm Francis, which is expected to hit some parts of Britain at 80mph.

Met Office meteorologist Nicola Maxey said: “While not exceptional, winds this strong are unusual for August and they will be accompanied by some heavy rain in places, with possible transport disruption and impacts on outdoor activities.
“Since 2015 when we started naming storms, we have never had to name a storm in August – and now we’ve had two in a few days.
“There are a lot of people on holiday in the UK at the moment, going camping and on walking breaks, many in coastal locations where the winds are likely to be stronger, so it is worth checking on the Met Office website ahead of time.”
