A horse was rescued at Warrington after an ordeal which saw it first trapped in a river and then stuck in a ditch as local firefighters were involved in two horse rescue dramas.

Three fire engines were involved in the rescue from Warrington, Lymm and Bollington, as well as a line-rescue unit from Lymm and an animal rescue unit from Bollington.
The drama was in Woolden Road, Glazebury at around 6pm last night.
On arrival, crews found the animal moving along the Glaze Brook towards Glazebrook. But it ended up in a ditch adjacent to the river.

The horse’s owner placed a collar around the animal’s head and calmed it down while crews began digging away at the ditch so that they could place straps under the horse as they awaited the arrival of a vet.
Once the vet was in attendance as the horse was safely removed from the ditch.
When firefighters left the scene the youngster was standing in a safe place and taking feed.
Firefighters were in attendance for more than two hours.

It was the second horse rescue fo the day.
Earlier three fire engines attended – one from Macclesfield, one from Bollington and one from Lymm – as did an animal rescue unit from Bollington and a line rescue unit from Lymm following reports of a foal being stuck in a well off Smith Lane in the Cheshire village of Rainow.
On arrival the crews found that the well was around 4ft deep. An animal rescue unit assessed the foal.
A head restraint was utilised and the foal was sedated by a vet. Firefighters then used harnesses to get the foal out of the well.
Tiggy the foal was later deemed to be in good health.
Firefighters were in attendance for around two hours.
