UPDATED: M6 crash – driver sadly dies following collision

UPDATED: A 62-year-old man has sadly died following a three vehicle collision involving a car and two lorries on M6 Southbound between Haydock and Winwick earlier today.

The Southbound carriageway between J23 (Haydock, A580) and J22 (Winwick) was closed for the best part of seven hours causing lengthy traffic delays, as the air ambulance landed at the scene.
Merseyside Police said the collision involved a Mitsubishi Shogun and two lorries.
An air ambulance landed at the scene but the 62-year-old man, the driver of the Mitsubishi, sadly died from his injuries.
An investigation is underway.

A Merseyside Police spokesperson said: “The man’s next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers at this time.
“Officers are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision, or has any CCTV or dashcam footage and would ask anyone with information to contact @MerPolCC, 101 quoting reference 20000493128 or the Roads Policing Unit on 0151 777 5747.”
