THE Friends of Meadowside free food outlet set up by a husband and wife team to help vulnerable people in the Orford area of Warrington, provided support for more than 400 people today.

Nine volunteers were on hand as more than 400 local residents queued outside the group’s base at Orford Jubilee Hub, following a bumper delivery of food thanks to Morrison’s in Stockton Heath and Frankie and Benny’s at St Helens, which has unfortunatley had to close.

During the current coronavirus pandemic there has been a surge in demand for food at The Friends of Meadowside Community Interest Company which was founded by Mark and Helen Davies in 2018, with the sole aim of providing a support network to the most vulnerable members of the local community and helping to break down the barriers of accessing the relevant services available to citizens, without having to endure a ‘qualifying’ criteria.
Friends of Meadowside has been providing a variety of support services to the local community via community venues, ad hoc events within the local school and other locally run events.
Amongst a number of Community activities from Mental Fitness programmes to youth clubs they are also a very busy free food outlet helping over 200 families on a daily basis.
Plans are currently ongoing for the group to vacate Orford Jubilee Hub and move to new premises later this year.
