WARRINGTON Borough Council is preparing to mark Armed Forces Day by raising the Armed Forces flag at the Town Hall from today, Monday.

The annual, national day of celebration gives everyone the opportunity to show their support for the men and women of the Armed Forces past and present, including service families, reservists, veterans and cadets.

This year, Armed Forces Day will be marked on Saturday 27 June and although we may not all be able to come together physically to mark it this year, due to the coronavirus pandemic, there are many ways that you can join in and celebrate at home. Mayor of Warrington, Cllr Wendy Johnson, said: “Unfortunately, due to coronavirus, we are unable to hold some of our special events in the usual way, but we feel it is important to show our appreciation for the men and women who make up the armed forces community. I hope it gives a much valued morale boost for Armed Forces personnel and their families.”
Cllr Graham Friend, the council’s armed forces champion, said: “The UK Armed Forces defend the country and its interest. Every day of the year they are busy working around the world, promoting peace, delivering aid, tackling drug smugglers, providing security and fighting terrorism. By raising the flag, we will show our support and gratitude to all that they have done, and continue to do for us.”
