£8,000 boost for Warrington Foodbank as demand for services more than doubles

WARRINGTON Foodbank has received a much needed donation of nearly £8,000 from local company Flex, via the Cheshire Community Foundation COVID-19 Response Appeal, as demands on its services have more than doubled.

Cheshire Community Foundation, which raises funds to support hundreds of small charities and voluntary groups across Cheshire and Warrington, received the donation from Flex, the global technology innovation, supply chain and manufacturing solutions company which has a site in Warrington.
This comes at a time when, according to the latest survey by the Food Foundation, five million people in the UK living in households with children under 18 have experienced food insecurity since lockdown started, double the level reported by the Food Standards Agency in 2018.
Warrington Food Bank would normally support 120 – 140 individuals and families per week, but requests for help are flooding in and by 30 April 2020 the charity was supporting over 300 people, many of whom had never accessed charitable support before.

Cheshire Community Foundation raises funds to support hundreds of small charities and voluntary groups across the whole of Cheshire and Warrington, connecting people and companies who would like to make a difference with those most in need of help.
Zoe Sheppard, CEO of Cheshire Community Foundation commented, “We couldn’t be more grateful to Flex for this very generous donation. We have received reports of families going hungry for days, many of whom have never had to access government or charitable support before. In addition to providing food and essentials, many of the charities we help to fund offer support and advice and are reaching out to the most vulnerable and isolated members of our community.”

Flex’s General Manager Mike Meades remarked: “As an organisation we believe that Flex can and should play a vital role in helping our local communities. It is a privilege to be able support this charity, providing a lifeline to hard-pressed local families at this difficult time. We trust CCF’s unique knowledge of the local charitable landscape to maximise the impact of our giving and to ensure the funds are distributed expertly to those most in need.”
