Ignorance of hidden disabilities leaves shopper angry and upset

A Warrington woman with hidden disabilities is raising awareness of the The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower, after getting “dirty looks” outside local shops where people are queuing during lockdown.

The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower was first launched at Gatwick Airport in May 2016.
It is recognised globally and has been adopted in the UK by all of the major airports, many supermarkets, railway stations, leisure facilities, in the NHS and an increasing number of small and large businesses and organisations.
Basically, it is used anywhere where people meet.
But local resident Julie Francis has been left upset and angry while vising local shops and stores.
She said: “I am sick of getting dirty look’s and verbal for not having too queue being disabled. I have a blue badge etc and this sunflower stuff too. I wear it lately due to the lockdown law’s about queues etc.”
But she can’t stand for long or queue due to a deteriorating bone and spine condition.
Julie added: “I am registered disabled so it’s my right to be helped.”

Recently she visited Aldi opposite Bank Park.
“There was a queue, I had my badge in the car and lanyard round my neck. One guy looked me up and down and tutted in disgust, I turned in anger and said “how dare you pre judge me, you don’t see the disease in my spine and bone’s do you!
“I have also told Home Bargain’s and B&M to educate their staff. It’s horrible when I have to try explain myself, I shouldn’t have too.
“I look okay on the outside so I get pre-judged.”
