Hospital death toll climbs to 100 but only one new COVID-19 case confirmed

TWO more deaths have been reported at Warrington Hospital of patients who tested positive for COVID-19, although only one new case has been confirmed at the hospital.

The number of patients who have now died at the hospital is 100, along with at least 57 deaths in local care homes taking the town’s death toll to at least 157.
The number of people from Warrington testing positive for COVID-19 at the hospital in the last 24 hours was just one, taking the total to 683.
Across the UK the Daily number of COVID-19 associated UK deaths was 210 taking the total number to 32,065.
The daily number of lab-confirmed UK cases was 3,877 taking the total number to 223,060
The latest figures released by the Department of Health is for coronavirus-related fatalities in all settings, including hospitals, care homes and the community, as of Monday, May 11.
Meanwhile Prime Minister Boris Johnson has outlined more details on revised lockdown conditions to MPs in the House of Commons.
He said the public have experienced the “toughest restrictions” in living memory and the government’s plan “is conditional and dependent as always… on the common sense of the British people”.
He added that “different parts of the UK may need to remain in lockdown for longer”, but that this should be short-term.
Mr Johnson said a “tragic” number of people have died in care homes.
“We have begun our descent from the peak of the epidemic but it has reached the most perilous moment where a wrong move could be disastrous”.
He warned “If the data goes the wrong way, if the alert level begins to rise, we will have no hesitation to put on the brakes – delaying or reintroducing measures locally, regionally or nationally.
“Our struggle against this virus has placed our country under the kind of strain that will be remembered for generations.
“But so too will the response of the British people.”
In a 50 page document released by the Government today outlining more details people are advised to wear face masks in enclosed spaces if social distancing is not possible, including on public transport and in shops.
