CHESHIRE High Sheriff Nick Hopkinson MBE DL has been running marathons around his back garden to inspire people to create opportunities to workout and make it as fun and enjoyable as possible.

During isolation and challenging times, Cheshire’s High Sheriff has been promoting exercise to help increase health and protect against the most common health problems. Physical activity is essential for good health and contribute to positive wellbeing.
Following new social distancing rules, Nick ran over 36 miles in his garden recently making that 3 marathons in 7 days.
“Sheriff Hoppy” as he likes to be known, posted on his Facebook account, “So I ran a marathon yesterday around the garden without training and not having really run any distance for over 30 years. Today I thought I could do more…how about another marathon plus a 10 km dog walk -So I did!”
“It’s amazing what you can do when you put a shift in…and you put your mind to something.”
Amongst other things Cheshire’s High Sheriff has been up Kilimanjaro eight times, cycled down the Himalayas, from Victoria Falls to Cape Town, canoed three times across Scotland and cycled the Scottish 500…all for charity.
The lead for activity and sport in Cheshire and Warrington, Active Cheshire, are proud to have Cheshire’s High Sheriff champion activity.
Anne Boyd, CEO of Active Cheshire said, “Nick Hopkinson is truly an inspiration for achieving so much in just his garden, we are thrilled to have him as our High Sheriff.
“Our vision is that everyone feels able to take part in sport or physical activity, especially during the global pandemic regardless of age, background or ability.”
