WARRINGTON North MP Charlotte Nichols has called for better protection for postal workers during the Coronavirus Crisis today (Wednesday 29 April) “National Postal Workers Day.”
The day provides a chance for people across the country to thank their postal workers and the staff who are currently keeping the country connected throughout the Coronavirus Crisis.
The annual event is organised by the Communication Workers Union (CWU), a trade union for the communications industry with almost 200,000 members.
Warrington North MP, Charlotte Nichols, has paid tribute to the postal workers who are playing an important role in the Coronavirus Crisis, delivering essential items, looking out for the elderly and taking shopping to vulnerable people.
Charlotte is also using the opportunity to back calls by the CWU, for action to be taken to better protect postal workers at this difficult time.
She said: “On National Postal Workers Day, we pay tribute to all postal workers who serve our communities in Warrington North and throughout the country – collecting, sorting and delivering letters, parcels and packets to 29 million addresses, 6 days a week. At this current time, they are going above and beyond to keep our country moving. Thank you!
“I also want to use the opportunity to call on Royal Mail to support our postal workers with proper PPE, proper reward and recognition, and an end to the delivery of advertising mail during the COVID-19 crisis.
“Our postal workers are doing an incredible job in very challenging circumstances – now it is time for their efforts to be properly recognised and for them to receive the support they rightly deserve.”
