Council to broadcast Development Management Committee live

WARRINGTON Borough Council’s Development Management Committee meeting on Wednesday, May 6, will be broadcast live via Microsoft Teams.

Meeting attendees and members of the public will be able to follow the meeting entirely remotely for the first time as the council adapts to new ways of working amidst the coronavirus pandemic.
Anyone with a device that can connect to the internet will be able to view the meeting from the council’s website. New legislation means that local authorities can now hold meetings flexibly to protect those who would normally physically attend the meeting from the virus.
Leader of the Council, Cllr Russ Bowden, said: “I’d like to thank officers who have been working hard behind the scenes to introduce this new solution, which means that council business can continue as close to normal during the pandemic period.
“We don’t want important decisions to grind to a halt, but our priority must be to protect as many people as possible. We can’t take the risk of inviting members of the public, or others who might normally attend the meeting, because we should still be doing all we can to observe the national guidance and stay at home where possible.
“I’m therefore encouraged that through this live stream, business on the agenda can still be considered. I’m hopeful that we can roll out this solution for future meetings, too.”
