Four more COVID-19 related deaths at Warrington Hospital but number of new cases down

FOUR more patients have sadly died at Warrington Hospital after testing positive for COVID-19, taking the death toll to 70, although the number of new daily cases in the town was down by more than half.

Eight new cases were confirmed at Warrington, down by more than half on the previous two days, taking the total number of confirmed cases to 558.
Across the country the Daily number of lab-confirmed UK cases was also significantly down on previous days at 2,730 taking the total number of lab-confirmed UK cases to 152,840
Across the country a total of 21,092 hospital patients have now died after testing positive for cOVID-19, although today’s figure of 360, was the lowest daily increase four weeks
The figures do not take into account deaths in care homes, or elsewhere in the community, which is expected to be in the thousands.
At the Governments daily briefing Professor Chris Whitty, England’s Chief Medical Officer warned that the pandemic still has a “a very long way to go.”
He said the Uk had managed to get through the first peak of the outbreak but there is a long way to go beyond that.
He said the pandemic had to be viewed over the “long run” and says it could go “a lot of different ways” in the coming months, dependent on the development of a vaccine or other drugs.
Prof Whitty said there was no perfect way for easing lockdown restrictions.

Meanwhile Health Secretary Matt Hancock has announced that the family of each NHS and social care staff who die on the frontline of the coronavrius crisis will receive a £60,000 payout.
