COUNCIL and health leaders have said “thank you” to the Warrington community for the “overwhelming compassion and support” shown to key front-line staff during the Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic.

In a joint statement Prof Steven Broomhead, Chief Executive and Cllr Russ Bowden, Leader – Warrington Borough Council and Prof Simon Constable, Chief Executive and Steve McGuirk CBE DL, Chair – Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals said:
“As we continue our combined and shared efforts to overcome the COVID-19 pandemic, we wish to thank the Warrington community for their kind words and support for our essential and front-line staff.
“We have been humbled by the overwhelming compassion and generosity shown to our teams. From the ceaseless donations for patients and staff, to the display of support from Cheshire Police with its 8pm guard of honour at our hospital, to the children who have drawn rainbows and written poetry, to every one of you that has stood on a doorstep to clap and cheer our key workers – we thank you.
“The battle against the pandemic is relentless but your gifts and messages have been uplifting and have strengthened our resolve. As Winston Churchill once remarked ‘We make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give’. This could never be more true by the kindness and understanding shown by our community.”
“Please take care of yourselves, stay safe (and stay home!)”
The statement has been issued on day 21 of Lockdown, with uncertainty remaining on how long it will continue with more than 30 deaths at Warrington Hospital so far, with a number of others at care homes in the town which have not been added to official figures.
