FIRE crews fought through the night to control a blaze involving burning plastic materials at Woolston, Warrington.
Three fire engines from Birchwood, Lymm and Salford were involved in the eight hour battle in the yard of premises on the Kingsland Grange industrial estate.
The blaze started at 6.20pm and crews found it well established when they reached the scene.
Plastic materials in a 20ft industrial skip were ablaze and at first two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus tackled the fire with hose reel jets. But later, two main jets were brought into use and it subsequently took 100 litres of foam to fully extinguish the fire.
All nearby drains were covered before the foam was used.
Once the fire was out firefighters damped down the skip and the plastic materials to make them safe. Temperatures were monitored with a thermal imaging camera.
When they were satisfied that the scene was safe firefighters handed the incident over to on-site personnel.
In a separate incident, a fire crew from Penketh dealt with a fire involving a motor cycle in Wharf Street, Warrington.
A hose reel jet was used to extinguish the blaze and the machine was damped down to make sure it was save. The incident took about 20 minutes to deal with.
