A special ceremony to commemorate the 27th anniversary of the the Warrington bombing this Friday (March 20) has been cancelled in light of the latest government advice regarding the Covid-19 pandemic.

It had been scheduled to take place on Bridge Street and later at the Peace Centre.

Nick Taylor, Chief Executive of the Peace Foundation, the charity set up in memory of three-year-old Johnathan Ball and 12-year-old Tim Parry, the two boys killed in the attack, said: :”These are extraordinary times. The decision to cancel the event was not taken lightly and in no way diminishes the significance of this date and I hope you share with us in thinking of Colin, Wendy and their family; Johnathan’s family; and all others affected by this and all other acts of terrorism.”

People wishing to pay their respects are asked to make private arrangements for reflection and observe social distancing and self-isolation advice. Whilst it is traditional to visit the memorial, this could be carried out at a later date.

Meanwhile if anyone or someone you know, have been affected by the Warrington attack, the Peace Foundation’s team is available to offer practical and emotional support. They can be contacted on:
