Casualty taken to hospital after three-vehicle crash

ONE person was released from a damaged car after a three-vehicle pile-up on the A559 at Whitley, near Warrington, early this morning.
Fire engines from Warrington, Stockton Heath and Lymm were sent to the scene and released the casualty and handed them over to paramedics.
They used cutting tools and a thermal imaging camera in the 80 minute operation.
Late last night two fire engines were sent to Holcroft Lane, Culcheth to deal with a fire involving rubbish on open land. A hose reel jet was used to extinguish the flames and crews then damped down the area.
One fire engine was sent to Appleton to deal with a fire involving paper on open land off Greenfields Avenue. It was extinguished with buckets of water.
