LATCHFORD Albion begin their 75th anniversary campaign this Saturday with a trip to North West Mens League Division 1 rivals Chorley Panthers .
It promises to be an exciting season, both on and off the field, as the club attempts to recognise its heritage, while also looking to gain promotion to the Premier Division.
With the coaching set up of Martyn Ellis, Dave Rudd and Dave Yii wntering their second season in charge, head coach Ellis is looking forward to the new season.
He said: “Having been in the role for 12 months, I remember my first training session where 11 players attended. The coaching staff quickly realised we needed cohesion between all departments and integrated the under 18’s, and more latterly, the under 16’s into our schedules creating a one club philosophy.
“By the end of the last campaign, we regularly had over 30 players training and were very unlucky to miss out on the play offs.
“This pre-season has seen this momentum carried forward. It has been really encouraging to see continued increased numbers, the players are really buying into what we are trying to achieve, and we have had quite a few players returning to the club from spells away from the game.
“We are fully aware of the challenge of this season. We are confident but at the same time, we know this division is a tough one but If we are consistent then we will be in the mix come the business end of the season “
Latchford’s opening home game is scheduled for March 14, when they host Oldham St Anne’s, when a host of ex-players will be on hand to officially launch the 75th anniversary season.
