Fire crews in three-hour battle to rescue horses trapped in mud

TWO horses and a foal were rescued by firefighters at Warrington in a three-and-a-half hour operation.
Two fire engines from Warrington and Lymm, plus a rope rescue unit from Lymm and an animal rescue unit from Bollington played key roles in the rescue at Ferry Lane, Thelwall.
Originally, fire crews were told two horses were stuck in mud but when they arrived at the scene they discovered a foal needed rescuing from the adjacent Manchester Ship canal.
After the rescue had been carried out the horses were left in the care of their and the foal was handed over to a vet.
