Retirement homes plan rejected by councillors

PLANS to demolish an old pub and build a three-storey apartment block for over 55s have been thrown out following opposition from nearby residents and councillors.
Warrington’s development management committee rejected the scheme for the site of the former Penketh Tavern off Greystone Road, Penketh.
The scheme, submitted by Warrington Housing Association, was opposed by Penketh Parish Council, borough councillor Linda Dirir and nearby residents.
The objectors believe a three-storey building will be totally out of character with the area and overshadow nearby bungalows.
Councillors were also concerned that an additional access on Greystone Road would create traffic hazards.
