Crime commissioner condemns Halloween hooligans

POLICE and crime commissioner David Keane has condemned a spate of anti-social behaviour which resulted in damage to properties and vehicles across Cheshire during the Halloween period.
Cheshire Police responded to 80 incidents in Warrington, Widnes and Runcorn alone on Wednesday They attended to a number of vehicles which were damaged including two police cars which had to be taken off the road for repair.
Additional patrols have been deployed to hot spot areas as part of an ongoing operation to keep people safe during this period. They have dealt with further incidents overnight on Halloween night (Thursday) taking the total number of anti-social incidents reported in Cheshire over the last 48 hours to more than 100.
Mr Keane appealed to the public to respect vulnerable members of the community and emergency service workers as Halloween and bonfire celebrations continue over the weekend.
He said: “These mindless acts of vandalism not only have a serious impact on our communities but also on the efforts of emergency service workers trying to keep us safe.
“Our blue light responders work extra hours during this period to ensure people can enjoy Halloween and bonfire night safely but their support is being hampered by thoughtless individuals intent on causing damage and distress to our communities.
“Please try and enjoy this weekend’s celebrations safely and stay out of trouble.”
