A 30-year-old man from Warrington has been arrested following a serious road collision at Runcorn.
Police are appealing for witnesses of the incident in Halton Brook Avenue, near the Riverside Housing Association building.
The collision involved a car and a pedestrian and was around 11.40pm on Saturday night.
Officers attended and discovered that the occupants of the red Fiat Punto involved in the collision had fled the scene on foot and that the pedestrian had sustained serious injuries.
The pedestrian, a 62-year-old man from Runcorn, was taken to hospital via an ambulance. His condition is described as critical but stable.
Two people – the 30-year-old man from Warrington and a 31-year-old woman from Runcorn – have been arrested in connection with the collision. They have both been released under investigation pending further enquiries.
Officers want to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or has any other information or dashcam footage which may aid the investigation.
Sergeant Andrew Dennison, of Cheshire Constabulary’s Serious and Complex Collision Investigation Unit, said: “A man sustained serious injuries as a result of the collision and is currently in a critical but stable condition in hospital.
“We are determined to establish exactly what happened and I urge anyone who witnessed the incident, which occurred shortly after 11.30pm on Saturday 6 October, or anything else that may help our investigation to get in touch.
“The same goes for anyone who believes they have dashcam footage that may be relevant to the investigation or information regarding where the red Fiat Punto had been prior to the collision.
“We particularly want to speak to anyone who was in a white hatchback car as well as a female pedestrian who was carrying an umbrella. They were both seen in the area at the time of the collision.”
