Traffic chaos as Chester Road swing bridge sticks open again!

THE Chester Road swing bridge on the A56 in Warrington stuck again on Wednesday afternoon causing traffic chaos in the area.

The bridge stuck shortly after 4pm causing tailbacks along the length of the A56 in both directions on the hottest day of the year in Warrington leaving motorists fuming!

The bridge has undergone repairs in the past following similar problems which have also affected the other swing bridges at Stockton Heath and Latchford in the town.

Local councillors and Warrington South MP Faisal Rashid have been calling on Peel Holdings to carry out maintenance on the bridges, due to their poor state.

Each time a bridge sticks it leads to traffic chaos impacting on a wide area.

Hot weather has been blamed in the past for causing the metal to expand.

  1. odd that it never seems to stick when it is open to traffic and stop boats from proceeding along their merry way, although it has happened at least once to my knowledge.
