PLANS for a new bus depot are to come before a meeting of Warrington’s development management committee tomorrow (Wednesday)
The new depot – to be used by Warrington’s Own Buses – will replace the existing one off Wilderspool Causeway and will be on land bounded by Bewsey Road and Dallam Lane.
It will involve one three-storey building, comprising a maintenance workshop, offices and storage, and a single storey service building for fuelling and washing buses.
There will be an external service yard, staff car parking, a chassis/bus was and refuelling area, MOT centre and bus parking area.
The eelxisting access from Dallam Lane will be widened and will be used by buses. An existing access from Bewsey Road will be used only by cars – except for emergency situation when it could be used by buses.
Planners say the new bus depot will be nearer to the main bus interchange than the existing depot with the objective of delivering the expansion of bus capacity and to improve the efficiency of bus services in Warrington.
The application has been submitted by Wire Regeneration – a partnership between Langtree and the borough council.
Consultation has been carried out with local residents and businesses.
The scheme is being recommended for approval.
About 220 people will be employed on the site – about the same as on the existing site.
A 2.5 metre high acoustic wall will be erected along part of the Bewsey Road frontage, with mesh fencing of the same height in front of it.
