A community is rallying to support a single mother of three after the family lost nearly all their belongings in a serious house fire at Latchford, which is believed to have been caused by a hoverboard charging unit.

Beckie Lawton, aged 35, was on the school run yesterday (Wednesday) when the fire broke out at her property in Prescott Street, Latchford, Warrington.

It is believed the fire was caused by a charging unit which had been purchased the day before on Amazon for a hoverboard.

Luckily nobody was hurt but the family has lost almost everything. Their home is now inhabitable and they were left with the clothes on their backs.

On hearing the devastating news friends rallied and set up a crowd funding page which has already brought in over £2,000

Friend Tina Kaminski said: “The local community are coming together to support Becki with donations of clothes for her and the children as they literally have what they left the house in yesterday.

“Another mum from school has kindly set up a crowd funding page which we’d like to promote to a wider audience to help Becki buy the essentials her and her children need.

“We have all left chargers plugged in at home and feel this is such an important message to get out there so people can see how devastating such a simple thing can be. It’s heartbreaking to think what could have happened.

“Thankfully no one was hurt.

“No one can believe this has happened. And to such a beautiful lady. Becki has a heart of gold and would do anything for anyone.

“Any support you can provide in getting the fire safety message out there and promoting the crowd funding page would be greatly received.

Three fire crews were called to a house on Prescott Street, Warrington, after a report of a fire. Firefighters, four wearing breathing apparatus, used two hose reel jets to fight the fire.

Smoke was then cleared from the property using a large fan.
