Council names new front-bench team

THE controlling Labour group on Warrington Borough Council has revealed the membership of the council’s cabinet – formerly known as the executive board.
Council leader is Cllr Russ Bowden, who will have responsibility for external relationships, external and internal communications, economic development, regeneration and the town centre.
Deputy leader is Cllr Cathy Mitchell, with responsibility for corporate resources, revenue and capital budgets, corporate property, financial planning, risk management, personnel and trade union liaison.
Cllr Judith Guthrie will lead on environment and public protection, waste, environment and maintenance operations, planning policy and strategy, renewable energy, climate change and air quality, community safety and regulation and protection services.
Cllr Tony Higgins will have responsibility for leisure and community, parks and open spaces, libraries, tourism, leisure, volunteering, neighbourhood and community services.
Statutory health and adult social care will be the portfolio of Cllr Rebecca Knowles, dealing with social/care and health integration and NHS liaison.
Cllr Maureen McLaughlin will deal with housing, public health and well-being, including third sector, homelessness, welfare support, domestic abuse, the arts, culture and museum.
Transport, highways and public realm will be the responsibility of Cllr Hans Mundry, including street lighting, transport planning and projects, the street scene and public realm.
Cllr Hitesh Patel’s portfolio will be “Transformation”, including service transformation, customer engagement, digital/ICT, corporate performance management, democracy, equality and diversity.
Finally, Cllr Matt Smith will be responsible for children’s services, involving education strategy, early help, special education needs, apprenticeships, youth services, schools and school support and children in care/looked after children.
